Until now, when servicing equipment that was too big to fit into the building, branch technicians have used truck cranes to work on the equipment outdoors. The addition will have four 50-foot drive-through bays with 16-foot-tall doors at each end. It’s possible for technicians to be working on multiple pieces of equipment in each of the drive-through bays. “This will free up our current bays to be used for customers’ smaller and intermediate-sized equipment. The new expansion is purpose-built to handle larger equipment,” Haney said. “The overhead crane is the key to the project. It adds efficiency, and customers will benefit accordingly. Our technicians will also benefit from the upgrade in equip- ment, and the more technician-friendly, work environment. It will be a state-of-the-art facility.” As the larger facility accommodates increased service business, the company plans to add technicians at the store, he said. The expansion project is being built by Beaver Constructors of Canton, a longtime customer of Columbus Equipment Company. Although the project was delayed over the winter due to weather, ground was broken in April, and completion is projected for mid-July. Customers will be invited to a see the expansion at a grand opening event later this year. The branch moved to its new location at 2200 Venture Circle S.E., Massillon last fall. The new facility is 4.6 acres of overall property versus the 1.8 acres at the previous Canton facility, allowing the store to maintain a larger sales and rental fleet to better serve customer needs.
